Why This Recipe Is So Flavorful
Pro Kitchen Tips
- Add a splash of beef broth or water if the sauce gets too thick during cooking.
- For extra flavor, brown the beef before placing it in the slow cooker.
Step 1
Stir the onion, brown sugar, pepper, salt, chili powder, paprika, oregano, garlic, ketchup, water, white vinegar, canola oil, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke right in your slow cooker. Give everything a good stir to combine. Then, nestle the beef pieces into the sauce, making sure theyβre well coated. Set the slow cooker to low and let it cook for about 10 hours β this slow cooking will make the beef really tender.
Step 2
When the beef is done, take it out and place it on a plate or cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces. Meanwhile, keep the sauce in the slow cooker. Scoop out about 1/4 cup of that sauce and pour it into a small bowl. Whisk in the cornstarch until itβs smooth, then stir this mixture back into the slow cooker to thicken the sauce.
Step 3
Finally, add the shredded beef back into the slow cooker and stir everything together so the meat soaks up that flavorful sauce. Serve the hot BBQ beef piled high on whole-wheat buns, and enjoy!
