Why This Recipe Works
Expert Cooking Tips
- Make sure to slice the cabbage into even “steaks” so they cook uniformly.
- Cook the cabbage steaks low and slow to ensure they become tender without burning.
Step 1
Warm your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Take off the outer leaf of the cabbage, then slice the cabbage into steaks about an inch thick. Lay them out on the baking sheet. Rub both sides of each cabbage steak with smashed garlic, then brush them generously with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 2
Pop the cabbage into the oven and roast for about 30 minutes. When the time’s up, carefully flip the steaks over. Place one or two slices of bacon on top of each and sprinkle a little brown sugar over everything. Roast for another 30 minutes, or until the cabbage is soft and the bacon is nice and crispy.
