Kitchen Tips
- Toast nuts and seeds lightly to bring out their natural oils and enhance crunch.
- Mix ingredients while still warm to help flavors blend well.
Step 1
Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Turn it every now and then until it’s really crispy and nicely browned, which should take about 10 minutes. Once done, drain the bacon on some paper towels and let it cool.
Step 2
While the bacon is cooling, preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a half-sheet or large baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides to make cleanup easier.
Step 3
Melt the butter in a big microwave-safe measuring cup. Stir in the brown sugar, corn syrup, bourbon, and Worcestershire sauce. Pop it back in the microwave and heat on high for about 2 minutes. Then, whisk in the chipotle powder until the mixture thickens into a sticky, light caramel sauce.
Step 4
In a large bowl, combine your mixed nuts, rice squares, corn cereal, pretzels, and oatmeal squares. Crumble the cooled bacon into the mix and give everything a good stir. Pour the caramel-bourbon sauce over the snack mix and gently fold it in with a spatula, making sure all the pieces get coated.
Step 5
Spread the mixture out in an even layer on your prepared baking pan. Bake it in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping everything halfway through so it crisps up evenly. When it’s done, let it cool completely on the pan for at least half an hour.
Step 6
Once cooled, use the parchment paper to lift the snack mix out of the pan and transfer it to a large bowl. Break up any clumps gently, then store the mix in airtight containers or zip-top bags to keep it fresh.
