Cooking Tips
- Toast the buns lightly to add extra texture and prevent sogginess.
- Adjust the spice level by adding more or less chili powder or hot sauce to suit your taste.
Step 1
Cook the ground turkey in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onions, green and red bell peppers, serrano chile, fresh chile, and garlic all at once. Stir everything together and cook until the turkey is no longer pink, which should take about 10 minutes. Once it's cooked, drain any excess fat from the pan.
Step 2
Stir in the ketchup, barbecue sauce, cider vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, onion powder, and black pepper. Give it a good mix and bring everything to a gentle boil. Then, lower the heat to medium-low and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, until the veggies are nice and soft—this usually takes around 20 minutes.
Step 3
When it's ready, spoon the mixture onto split hamburger buns and enjoy!
