Why This Recipe Is So Good
Pro Kitchen Tips
- Use a whisk to keep the sauce smooth and well combined.
- Adjust the bourbon amount to taste, adding more for a stronger kick or less for a milder flavor.
Directions
Combin ketchup, tomato sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, molasses, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and all the spices—onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, mustard powder, liquid smoke, and cayenne pepper—in a saucepan. Bring everything up to a gentle boil over medium heat. Once it’s boiling, lower the heat and let it simmer, stirring frequently so nothing sticks to the bottom. Keep it simmering until the sauce thickens and gets nice and smooth, which should take about 45 minutes. Taste it along the way and adjust the seasoning if you feel like it needs a little extra kick. When it’s done, let it cool a bit before using, and enjoy that rich, smoky flavor!
