Kitchen Advice
- Soaking steel cut oats overnight can reduce cooking time.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar to suit your taste.
Step 1
Bring a big pot of water to a boil. Once it’s bubbling, stir in the steel cut oats and keep it boiling for about 5 minutes, until it starts to thicken up. Add a pinch of salt and give it a good stir. Turn the heat down to low and let the oats simmer gently for around 20 minutes, so they begin to soften.
Step 2
While the oats are cooking, whisk together the milk, brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon in a bowl until it’s smooth and combined. Pour this mixture into the pot and stir it into the oats. Let everything cook together for another 10 to 15 minutes, until the oats are nice and tender.
Step 3
Finally, stir in the cranberries and cook just long enough for them to warm through, about 2 or 3 minutes. Then, give everything one last stir and it’s ready to enjoy!
