Chef Tips
- Simmer the sauce gently to let the flavors blend well without burning the bottom.
- Add a splash of apple cider vinegar or a pinch of smoked paprika to enhance the depth of taste.
Step 1
Lightly heat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). In a large skillet over medium-high heat, warm up some oil and toss in the chopped onion and jalapeΓ±o. Cook them until the onion is soft and translucent, which should take about 5 minutes. Then add the garlic and cook for another minute. Pour in the bourbon and let it simmer gently for about 4 minutes before turning off the heat.
Step 2
In a big bowl, mix together the tomato paste, maple syrup, molasses, vinegar, soy sauce, mustard, and paprika until everything is smooth. Stir in the cooked onion mixture along with the beans, folding everything together carefully.
Step 3
Pour this mixture into a baking dish, cover it, and bake for 35 minutes. After that, uncover the dish and bake for another 15 minutes to let it thicken up a bit. Once itβs done, take it out of the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
