Why This Recipe Works
Kitchen Tricks
- Cook over medium heat to allow the sugar to caramelize without burning.
- Let the bites cool slightly before handling to let the caramel set properly.
Directions
Warm your oven to 325°F. Take each little sausage and wrap it with about a third of a slice of bacon, securing it with a toothpick so it stays put. Lay them out on a large baking sheet, then sprinkle 3/4 cup of brown sugar evenly over the top. Pop them in the oven and bake for around 40 minutes, making sure to turn them halfway through so they caramelize nicely on all sides. Once they’re golden and bubbly, scoop them up with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a slow cooker. Sprinkle the remaining 3/4 cup of brown sugar and the five-spice powder over the sausages, then pour in the cola. If you like a little kick, add some hot sauce to taste. Set your slow cooker to high and let everything cook for about 4 hours. Serve warm and enjoy!
