Why This Dish Is Amazing
Tips For Better Flavor
- Be careful not to overmix the batter to keep the cake light and tender.
- Check the cake with a toothpick near the end of baking to avoid overbaking.
Step 1
Gently heat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a 9-inch springform pan so the cake doesnβt stick. In a medium bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, cardamom, and salt until everything is combined.

Step 2
In a larger bowl, whisk the brewed coffee and espresso powder together. Then add the Greek yogurt, applesauce, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk everything until the mixture is smooth and lump-free. Gradually add half of the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir just until combined. Repeat with the rest of the dry ingredients, being careful not to overmix. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts gently.

Step 3
Pour the batter into your prepared pan and place it on a baking sheet to catch any drips. Bake in the oven for about 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs. Once itβs done, let the cake cool on a wire rack for about 30 minutes.

Step 4
After itβs cooled a bit, run a knife around the edges to loosen the cake from the pan, then carefully remove the sides. Let the cake cool completely for another 15 to 30 minutes before serving. Just before you dig in, sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top for a simple, pretty finish.
