Why This Dish Is Hard To Resist
Helpful Tips For Cooking
- Brown the chorizo well to develop a robust base for the chili.
- Let the chili simmer slowly to allow the flavors to meld and deepen.
Step 1
Warm a large pot over medium-high heat. Cook the bacon until itβs just a little crispy, which should take about 5 minutes. Once done, take it out and set it aside. Next, lower the heat to medium and add the chorizo to the same pot. Cook it until itβs nicely browned, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes, then drain and set it aside with the bacon.
Step 2
Now, cook the ground sirloin in the pot over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it browns and making sure thereβs no pink leftβthis will take around 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off any excess grease. Return the bacon and chorizo to the pot, then add the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, chopped onions, and Italian seasoning. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, brown sugar, liquid smoke, garlic juice, and a pinch of cinnamon.
Step 3
Bring everything to a boil, then lower the heat to let it simmer. Add the jalapeΓ±os, kidney beans, black beans, and chocolate. Let the chili cook gently for about two hours, stirring every now and then so the flavors can really come together. Once itβs rich and thick, itβs ready to serve.
