Tips For Better Flavor
- Sear the beef on high heat before simmering to lock in the juices.
- Let the meat rest for a few minutes after cooking to keep it tender and juicy.
Step 1
Gently heat some olive oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until it’s nicely browned—this should take about 15 minutes. Next, toss in the beef chunks along with the garlic and both types of pepper. Keep cooking everything together until the beef is browned and the garlic turns golden, which should take around 10 minutes.
Step 2
While that’s cooking, mix together the water, red wine, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce in your slow cooker. Stir in the brown gravy mix and kosher salt until the gravy mix fully dissolves. Once the beef and onion mixture is ready, transfer it to the slow cooker and give everything a good stir.
Step 3
Set the slow cooker to High and let it cook until the mixture is almost boiling, about an hour. Then lower the heat to Low and let it simmer until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened, which will take about another hour. Enjoy!
