Kitchen Tricks
- Don’t overbake; the filling should be set but still a little soft for that signature gooey texture.
- Let the bars cool completely before cutting to ensure clean slices and prevent crumbling.
Step 1
Heat your oven to 350 degrees F and greasing a 9x13-inch baking pan. In a bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder. In a separate large bowl, beat the margarine and brown sugar until the mixture is nice and smooth. Add the flour mixture to the creamed margarine, then stir in the chopped pecans. Press this dough evenly into the bottom of your prepared pan.
Step 2
Pop the crust into the oven and bake it for about 10 minutes, just until it feels hot to the touch.
Step 3
While the crust is baking, whisk the eggs in a bowl until they get foamy. Then mix in the dark corn syrup, brown sugar, flour, salt, and vanilla until everything is well combined and smooth. Pour this filling over the warm crust, sprinkle the remaining pecans on top, and slide it back into the oven.
Step 4
Bake for another 25 to 30 minutes, or until the topping is set and looks golden. Let it cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.
