Helpful Tips For Cooking
- If you prefer a thicker soup, mash some of the beans before serving.
- Add fresh herbs like thyme or parsley at the end for a bright, fresh taste.
Step 1
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Toss in the diced ham and cook it, stirring occasionally, until it’s nicely browned—this should take about 5 minutes. Once it’s ready, transfer the ham over to your slow cooker.
Step 2
Add the black beans, Great Northern beans, artichoke hearts, baby corn, mushrooms, green chilies, celery, potatoes, carrot, leek, garlic, rosemary, parsley, thyme, brown sugar, Creole seasoning, white pepper, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper, and red wine to the slow cooker. Pour in enough water to just cover everything.
Step 3
Turn the slow cooker on high and let it come to a boil. Once it’s bubbling, lower the heat to low and let it cook gently for around 7 hours. By the end, you’ll have a warm, flavorful soup perfect for any day.
