What Makes This Dish So Tasty
Chef's Cooking Tips
- Be careful not to overmix the batter to keep the cake tender.
- Test doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean or with a few crumbs.
Step 1
Heat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and grease a 10-inch tube pan, then dust it lightly with flour to keep the cake from sticking. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt, and set that aside for now.
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, beat half a cup of butter with two cups of brown sugar until the mixture is nice and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the maple flavoring. Now, gradually add the flour mixture alternately with the evaporated milk, mixing just until everything is combined—don’t overdo it.
Step 3
Pour the batter into your prepared pan and pop it in the oven. It’ll need about 70 to 80 minutes to bake; you’ll know it’s done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 4
For the frosting, melt a quarter cup of butter in a saucepan over low heat, then add half a cup of brown sugar, confectioners’ sugar, a splash of milk, and vanilla. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the frosting is smooth. Spread it over the cooled cake and enjoy!
