Put the tea leaves, cinnamon stick, star anise, five-spice powder, cloves, ginger, peppercorns, licorice, orange peel, rock sugar, and both dark and light soy sauces into a large saucepan. Heat everything up until it comes to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and let it gently simmer for about 15 minutes. While thatโs simmering, take your hard-boiled eggs and lightly tap them all over with the back of a spoon to crack the shellsโthis helps the flavors seep in and gives the egg whites a nice color. Carefully add the cracked eggs to the simmering spiced liquid and cook them for 30 minutes. Once thatโs done, turn off the heat but leave the eggs in the pot to soak up all the flavor for another couple of hours. When youโre ready, drain the eggs, pop them in the fridge to chill, and then peel and enjoy!
