Why This Recipe Is So Tasty
Cooking Tips You Should Know
- Slice the steak thinly against the grain to make it easier to chew.
- Marinate the steak for at least an hour, or overnight if possible, to enhance flavor.
Step 1
Season the flank steak generously with your favorite steak seasoning on both sides. Heat some olive oil in a skillet over medium heat until itโs shimmering, then add the steak. Sear it for about 5 minutes on each side until itโs nicely browned. Once done, set the steak aside for now.
Step 2
Mix together the brown sugar, chopped onion, diced red bell pepper, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, and tomato paste in your slow cooker. Stir until the brown sugar has completely dissolved. Nestle the seared flank steak into the sauce, making sure itโs well covered.
Step 3
Cover the slow cooker and cook on High for about 4 hours, or if you have more time, set it to Low and let it go for 8 hours. When the cooking time is up, take the steak out and shred it using two forks, or if you prefer, chop it up and stir it back into the sauce.
Step 4
Finally, toast your buns until theyโre golden and slightly crispy. Pile the tender, saucy steak onto the buns, and enjoy!
