Why This Recipe Is So Flavorful
Tips For Best Results
- Avoid lifting the slow cooker lid during cooking to keep the temperature steady and develop richer flavors.
- Use filtered water for a cleaner taste and to avoid any unwanted mineral notes.
Step 1
Start by lightly coating the bottom of your slow cooker with some olive oil. Toss in the celery, carrots, potato, onion, lettuce, beer, shallots, fennel, bell pepper, apple, parsley, peppercorns, lemon, ginger, tamari, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and bay leaf. Pour enough water over everything to just cover the ingredients.
Step 2
Set your slow cooker to Low and let it cook for 8 to 10 hours, or if you're short on time, cook on High for about 4 hours. Once itβs done, use a slotted spoon to fish out and discard the solid bits from the broth.
Step 3
Line a colander with cheesecloth and place it over a large pot or bowl. Pour the broth through the cheesecloth to strain out any remaining solids, leaving you with a nice clear, flavorful broth ready to use.
