Why This Dish Is Amazing
Simple Cooking Tips
- Donβt overmix the ingredients to keep the meatloaf tender.
- Let the meatloaf rest a few minutes before slicing to help it hold together.
Step 1
Lightly heat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, sausage, chopped onion, crushed saltine crackers, beaten eggs, and Cajun seasoning until everything is well combined. Next, shape the mixture into a little Halfling figure right in a large baking dishβmake a big head, two stubby legs, and two arms raised up like itβs ready to scare!
Step 2
Pop the meatloaf into the oven and bake for about an hour, until itβs no longer pink in the middle and just starting to brown on top. You can check doneness with a meat thermometerβit should read at least 165Β°F (70Β°C) in the center.
Step 3
Now for the fun part: decorating! Take about 14 corn kernels and arrange them on the head to look like teeth. Use small green pepper slices for ears on each side. For eyes, place two pickle slices on the face, then put black olive halves (cut side down) inside the pickles to finish the eyes. Use another olive half for the nose. Surround your little monster with ketchup βbloodβ for a spooky effect.
Step 4
Pop it back in the oven for another 10 minutes to let the decorations set and the ketchup get nice and bubbly. When itβs done, let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
Step 5
Right before you serve, stick a small knife into its βbodyβ and add a little extra ketchup for some final bloody flair. Enjoy!
