Why This Dish Is Amazing
Cooking Techniques
- Use fresh halva for the best flavor; pre-packaged halva can sometimes be dry or crumbly.
- Donβt overmix the batter once you add the flour to keep the cake tender and light.
Step 1
Heat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan so the cake doesnβt stick. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat pastry flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in the chopped apple and halva pieces until theyβre evenly distributed.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, buttermilk, brown sugar, tahini, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour this wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold everything together until just combinedβdonβt overmix.
Step 3
Transfer the batter to your prepared loaf pan and sprinkle the top with some turbinado sugar for a nice crunchy finish. Pop it in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes. After about 30 minutes, cover the top loosely with foil to keep it from getting too dark.
Step 4
Once itβs done, test with a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 5 to 10 minutes before carefully flipping it onto a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
