Expert Cooking Tips
- Steam the sweet potatoes until very soft for easy mashing.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to enhance the flavors.
Step 1
Put the pears, wine, and water into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, lower the heat to medium-low and let it simmer until the pears are nice and soft, about 5 to 10 minutes. Take the pears out and set them aside, saving the liquid.
Step 2
Peel and chop the sweet potatoes, then put them in a large pot and cover with water. Bring it to a boil, then turn the heat down to medium-low, cover the pot, and let the potatoes cook until they're tender—this usually takes around 20 minutes. Drain them well and let them sit for a minute or two to dry out a bit.
Step 3
Now, add the cooked pears, evaporated milk, vanilla, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the sweet potatoes. Mash everything together until it’s smooth and creamy. Spoon it into a serving dish and enjoy it warm.
