Practical Cooking Tips
- Toast the nuts lightly before adding for extra flavor.
- Press the mixture firmly into the pan to help the bars hold together well.
Step 1
Warm your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until the mixture is nice and smooth. Then, beat in the eggs along with 2 teaspoons of vanilla and half a teaspoon of almond extract until everything is well combined.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, sliced almonds, baking soda, and a teaspoon of salt. Add this dry mix to the wet ingredients and stir just until everything comes togetherβyou donβt want to overmix. Spread about two-thirds of this oat batter evenly in a 10x15-inch baking pan with sides.
Step 3
Melt the chocolate chips, condensed milk, 2 tablespoons of butter, and half a teaspoon of salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth, which should take around five minutes. Take it off the heat, then stir in the remaining 2 teaspoons of vanilla and half a teaspoon of almond extract.
Step 4
Pour the chocolate mixture over the oat layer in the pan, spreading it out evenly. Then dollop the rest of the oat batter on top in spoonfuls and gently spread it over the fudge layer.
Step 5
Pop the pan in the oven and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the bars cool before cutting so they hold together nicely.
