Why This Dish Is Hard To Resist
Tips From The Kitchen
- Make sure the oat topping is golden brown for the best crunch.
- Let the pie cool slightly before serving to help the filling set.
Directions
Gently heat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C) and grease a 9-inch pie plate so the pie doesnβt stick. Peel and slice your apples, then pile them into the pie plate, making a little mound in the center. In a big bowl, mix together the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut the cold butter into the mixture using a pastry blender or just a knife and fork until it looks crumbly and sandy. Sprinkle this oat topping evenly over the apples. Pop the pie into the oven and bake for about 45 to 55 minutes, until the apples are soft and bubbling and the topping turns a nice golden brown. Once itβs done, let it sit for about 15 minutes before slicing so it sets up a bit.
