Better Cooking Tips
- Marinate the pork overnight to deepen the flavor and make it more tender.
- Let the meat rest for a few minutes after cooking to keep it juicy.
Step 1
Cut the boneless pork shoulder into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick. It helps to freeze the meat just a little beforehand—that way, it’s easier to slice.
Step 2
For the slow cooker method, toss the sliced pork into the slow cooker along with chopped onion, minced garlic, brown sugar, dry mustard, salt, pepper, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Give everything a good stir to combine, then cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. Check in and stir it occasionally, and you’ll know it’s done when the pork is nice and tender.
Step 3
If you’re using a Dutch oven or a heavy pot, mix the pork and all the other ingredients together in the pot. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat, then lower the heat to a gentle simmer. Cover the pot and let it cook for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, stirring now and then, until the pork is tender and flavorful.
