Why This Recipe Is So Good
Simple Cooking Tips
- Avoid overmixing the meat to keep the burgers tender.
- Let the patties rest for a few minutes after cooking to lock in the juices.
Step 1
Minc some onion until you have about 1/4 cup, and set the rest aside for later. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the minced onion along with a teaspoon of taco seasoning. Cook this until the onion is soft and fragrant, about five minutes.
Step 2
Transfer the cooked onion to a bowl and mix in the ground beef, two teaspoons of taco seasoning, and a bit of garlic powder. Combine everything well, then shape the mixture into four patties.
Step 3
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, pour in the tomato sauce, then stir in the salsa and the last teaspoon of taco seasoning. Using a mandolin or a sharp knife, thinly slice the remaining onion and add it to the sauce. Nestle the patties into the sauce and cook them until they reach an internal temperature of 170°F, flipping about every five minutes.
Step 4
If you like, toast your buns while the patties finish cooking. Serve the patties on the buns with the saucy onion mixture spooned on top, and add any other toppings you enjoy.
