Why This Dish Is Hard To Resist
Chef Tips
- Don’t overmix the dough; mix just until ingredients come together.
- Brush the tops with melted butter before baking for a shiny, golden finish.
Step 1
Lightly heat your oven to 450°F. Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat, turning it now and then, until it’s nice and crispy—this usually takes about 10 minutes. Once done, transfer the bacon to some paper towels to drain and let it cool enough to crumble.
Step 2
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the shortening with your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently just until everything comes together into a soft dough. Then fold in the crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar.
Step 3
Spoon generous dollops of the dough onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them out a bit. Pop the tray into your hot oven and bake for about 10 to 12 minutes, or until the biscuits turn a lovely golden brown. Enjoy them warm right out of the oven!
