Why This Recipe Works
Tips For Perfect Results
- Donโt overcook the spaetzle; it should be tender but still have a slight bite.
- Brown the kielbasa well to develop a nice crust and intensify the taste.
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the flour, basil, parsley, garlic salt, and pepper. Make a little well in the center. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and 1 cup of water, then pour this into the well. Stir everything until it comes together into a thick, sticky dough.
Step 2
Bring 4 cups of salted water to a boil in a pot. While you wait, place the dough on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, slice off small pieces about the size of a pretzel stick. Drop these little spaetzle pieces into the boiling water and cook until they float to the surface, which usually takes 1 to 2 minutes. Scoop them out with a slotted spoon and set aside.
Step 3
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the brown sugar, garlic, and cayenne, stirring until the sugar dissolves and everything smells fragrant, about a minute. Toss in the kielbasa and the cooked spaetzle, stirring often until the kielbasa is heated through and everything is nicely coated, about 4 to 5 minutes. Serve hot and enjoy!
