Kitchen Tricks
- Cook on medium heat to soften the cabbage without losing its crunch.
- Add spices gradually and taste as you go to control the level of heat.
Directions
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Once itβs melted, add the chopped onion and apple, and cook them together, stirring occasionally, until the onion turns translucent and the apple softensβthis usually takes about 3 to 5 minutes. Next, pour in the wine, both types of vinegar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Give everything a good stir and bring the mixture up to a boil. Once boiling, toss in the shredded cabbage and stir well so itβs nicely coated with all those flavors. Season with some salt and pepper, then lower the heat and let it simmer gently. Cook it until the cabbage is tender, which should take around 30 minutes. Keep an eye on it and give it a stir now and then to make sure nothing sticks.
