Why This Dish Is Worth Trying
Tips From The Kitchen
- Allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free place to ensure it doubles in size.
- Brush the top with melted butter right after baking for a soft, shiny crust.
Step 1
Lightly heat your oven to 325Β°F (165Β°C) and greasing two 8x4-inch loaf pans. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt, then set it aside. In a separate large bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the milk, beer, and 1ΒΎ cups of brown sugar until the sugar has completely dissolved. Next, stir in the butter, browning sauce, vanilla, and lime juice until everything is well combined. Fold in the flour mixture along with the raisins, stirring just enough to get rid of any dry spots.
Step 2
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and pop them in the oven. Bake for about an hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. While the bread is baking, mix the remaining Β½ cup brown sugar with the water in a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil over high heat, then let it cook until it becomes thick and syrupy, which should take around 5 minutes.
Step 3
As soon as the bread is done, take it out and drizzle the glaze over the top. Put the loaves back into the oven for another 5 minutes to let the glaze set. Finally, let the bread cool in the pans for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
