Chef Tips
- Melt the chocolate slowly over a double boiler to avoid burning.
- Let the toffee cool completely before adding the chocolate glaze for a smooth finish.
Step 1
Gently heat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and greasing a 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread the coconut flakes out on a baking sheet without greasing it, then pop it in the oven. Toast the coconut for about 10 minutes, giving it a good stir every few minutes so it browns evenly.
Step 2
While the coconut is toasting, mix together the sweetened condensed milk, flour, corn syrup, brown sugar, 1/4 cup of butter, vanilla, and salt in a bowl. Once the coconut is nicely toasted, fold it into the mixture and pour everything into your prepared dish.
Step 3
Bake the batter for about 25 to 35 minutes, until itโs set and starting to turn golden around the edges. Let it cool completely before moving on to the glaze.
Step 4
For the chocolate glaze, melt the chocolate chips and milk together in a double boiler over simmering water. Keep stirring and scraping the sides with a rubber spatula so the chocolate doesnโt burn. Once smooth, mix in the powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of butter, and vanilla, stirring until the frosting is silky and well combined.
Step 5
Spread the glaze evenly over the cooled bars, then pop the whole thing into the fridge for about half an hour to let the chocolate set before slicing and serving.
