What Makes This Recipe So Great
Cooking Tips
- Bake at a high temperature to get the bacon crispy without overcooking the chestnuts.
- Let them cool slightly before serving to avoid burns and to let the bacon firm up.
Directions
Soak the water chestnuts in a bowl of soy sauce for at least three hours, then drain them well. While they’re soaking, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Next, wrap each water chestnut with a slice of bacon and secure it with a toothpick. Place them all in a shallow baking dish, making sure they’re spaced out a bit. Pop the dish into the oven and bake for about 25 to 35 minutes, or until the bacon is nice and crispy. While they’re cooking, whisk together the brown sugar, mayonnaise, and chili sauce until you have a smooth dipping sauce. Once the bacon-wrapped water chestnuts are done, serve them warm with the sauce on the side for dipping.
