Why This Recipe Is So Easy To Love
Practical Cooking Tips
- Use a food processor to blend the mixture just enough to hold together without turning it into a paste.
- Cook the patties on medium heat to get a crispy outside while keeping the inside soft.
Step 1
Puls the black beans in a food processor or blender, adding just a little of the reserved liquid from the can to help it along. Transfer the mashed beans to a large bowl. Next, grind the oats in the processor until they turn into a fine flour, then add those to the bowl as well. Do the same with the sunflower seeds, grinding them finely before mixing them in.
Step 2
In batches, blend the mushrooms, bell peppers, and onion until finely chopped, then stir that into the mixture. Now, add the parsley, Worcestershire sauce, and all the spicesβsalt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and cumin. Mix everything together thoroughly, either with your hands or a spatula. If the mixture feels too wet and wonβt hold together, add a bit more oat flour until itβs firm enough to shape.
Step 3
Form the mixture into about 15 tight balls, then gently flatten each one into a patty. Make sure to pinch the edges so there are no cracks, which helps them hold their shape while cooking. Place the patties on wax or parchment paper while you heat your pan.
Step 4
Heat some oil in a large skillet over medium heat until itβs hot but not smoking. Carefully place the patties in the pan, working in batches so you donβt overcrowd it. Cook them for about 3 to 5 minutes on each side, until theyβre nicely browned and crispy. Once done, transfer the patties to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Repeat with the remaining patties, adding more oil as needed.
